For Canadian governments and economic developers, it is common knowledge that the US is the largest foreign direct investor in Canada, and that the same holds true for Canadian investment in the USA. As such, understanding US investor preoccupations as it relates to Canada is key to attracting and expanding US investors in the numerous jurisdictions within each province. Area Development, in cooperation with the CAI Global Group, are pleased to be hosting Area Development’s first Canadian FDI Forum. This event, modeled after its US format, provides Canadian EDOs with an opportunity to better understand the needs of the US investor, and hear investor knowledge and perspectives on current investment criteria and how it affects the site selection process.

The future prosperity of regions is increasingly dependent on the capacity to attract foreign direct investment. Economic development agencies around the world recognize that survival of subsidiaries of foreign multinationals is not an easy undertaking in today’s rapid business globalization. In an effort to assist local executives in winning world mandates for their respective subsidiaries, CAI developed a course entitled, “the CEO Masterclass, a Strategic Seminar for Senior Management on Attracting and Retaining World Mandates.” The purpose of the CEO Masterclass is to present critical factors for growth and survival and to provide managers with an opportunity to exchange strategies with other managers experiencing similar challenges in attracting and retaining mandates from their parent companies.
